Meatball Sub

meatball-sub

This has become an absolute go-to sandwich for game day. Not only do you get to show off your own smoked meatballs and delicious marinara sauce that YOU made (following our recipe) but when you press it properly at the end, you get a phenomenal crunch of your bread and the perfect melty cheese!

Ingredients

  • Your favorite hoagie roll
  • Four of your smoked meatballs
  • ¼ cup of your homemade marinara sauce
  • Sliced mozzarella cheese
  • Cilantro
  • Oregano

Instructions

You can do this one of two ways. The one I’ll first show you is the traditional way with no special tricks to the hoagie roll:

  • Make sure to warm up your meatballs and marinara
  • While those get warm, slice open your hoagie roll
  • Place your smoked meatballs in the roll
  • Spread the warm sauce over that
  • Place the mozzarella on top and let it melt a bit from the heat
  • Sprinkle cilantro and oregano on it
  • Serve and enjoy!

If you want to take a few more steps and get a roll with a nice crispy crust to it, follow this:

  • Pull out a griddle and warm it up
  • Warm up your smoked meatballs and marinara
  • Slice open your hoagie, butter the insides, place them butter side down on hot griddle
  • Place a press on it for some weight
  • Let the crust form for about two minutes on medium-high heat
  • Remove from griddle
  • Place the mozzarella cheese on the top and bottom of the insides
  • Place the smoked meatballs in the roll
  • Pour the sauce on that
  • Return sandwich to griddle and press it down
  • Let the bottom crust form for about two minutes and flip
  • Cook the top crust for another two minutes then remove
  • Let sit for a minute, slice, and serve
  • Enjoy!
